Welcome me to your world?

So I’m new at blogging, though it’s been on my mind lately.  I hope to use this site to keep a record of things that are/aren’t wheelchair friendly, while at the same time keeping in touch with the fam & friends (let’s face it Facebook statuses only tell so much, or is it statusi?).  Of course I plan on trying to maintain some level of anonymity here so only fictional names will be used, at least in the beginning.

As far as the blog title, the first part (“Rollerbabe”) was a name bestowed on me by my now Hub’s fraternity brother.  And while I did not care much for it at the time, on some level it stuck. And it makes me giggle.

During a really rough patch in my life a dear friend and mentor told me, in a beautifully written email, that I had to have tenacity.  Well, unfortunately my reaction to these words was confounded by the rather embarrasing fact that I did not know what this word meant, and I feared losing face by replying with a less powerfully charged “huh?” email.

Main Entry: te·nac·i·ty

hmmm…

Main Entry: te·na·cious
Pronunciation: \tə-ˈnā-shəs\

Etymology: Latin tenac-, tenax tending to hold fast, from tenēre to hold
Date: 1607

1 a : not easily pulled apart : cohesive <a tenacious metal> b : tending to adhere or cling especially to another substance <tenacious burs>
2 a : persistent in maintaining, adhering to, or seeking something valued or desired <a tenacious advocate of civil rights> <tenacious negotiators> b : retentive <a tenacious memory>

(Thank you Merriam Webster online!)

Since I was at a low point in life I decided that there had to be “something” that made it all worthwhile.  And the rest as they say is history…
